ECOSOC in Motion: A Visual Timeline of Its Institutional Bodies (1946–2025)

This interactive data visualization traces the institutional development of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) from its founding in 1946 to the present. Each circle represents a functional commission, regional commission, standing committee, or expert body established under ECOSOC. Animated lines illustrate when and how these entities emerged over time. A red “NEW” label highlights the bodies established in the selected year, allowing users to instantly spot institutional additions.

Users can either explore the timeline manually by selecting individual years or watch ECOSOC’s institutional landscape unfold automatically. Color-coded categories and short labels help make the structure of ECOSOC’s global governance system easy to follow. Additional information on each body is available in tooltips.
